Would you like to learn more about poetry writing and become a more confident and foot-sure poet? Do you want to polish up your imaginative skills and learn new ways to approach, edit and refine your poetry? We have just the thing – a series of Nine Arches Poetry Workshops, taking place at various venues across the Midlands.

 

Designed to give you increased confidence and dexterity in your poetry writing, these workshops provide a focused and supportive atmosphere, and we guarantee you'll leave with plenty of new poems and exciting ideas!

Nine Arches Press at Birmingham Literature Festival

  • Workshop: Urban Birdlife – Walking and Writing with Matt Merritt

Tuesday October 8th 2013, 1:30 pm - 4:00 pm

Tickets: £28 / £23

Join wildlife journalist, professional birder and poet Matt Merritt for an urban bird writing workshop that will explore the hidden wildlife gems of Birmingham’s urban woodland in and around Moseley and the Sarehole Mill area. Discover the bird species that thrive in this unique habitat in the heart of the city and let the area’s rich heritage and literary connections feed into your writing. Tune in your senses, refine your writing skills and let your imagination take flight!

Matt Merritt is a poet and wildlife journalist from Leicester. His third collection, The Elephant Tests, is published by Nine Arches, and previous publications are hydrodaktulopsychicharmonica (Nine Arches, 2010), Troy Town (Arrowhead, 2008), and Making The Most Of The Light (HappenStance, 2005). Advisory: This is an outdoor walking workshop and we cannot guarantee any seating along the route. It may cover some uneven ground. Please wear suitable clothing and shoes for the weather conditions. All workshop attendees are asked to meet Matt in the car park of Sarehole Mill which is free of charge.

Join Jane Commane, Editor at Nine Arches Press, for a workshop designed to demystify the world of poetry publishing. This lively session will familiarise you with the realities of poetry publishing and will also explore the world of the small press and literary journals and magazines. The workshop will equip those interested in getting into print with the best advice for building a reputation, submitting work, finding the right publisher for you and avoiding all the pitfalls along the way!  There will be a chance for a Q&A at the end, for all the things you wanted to know about poetry publishing, but were too afraid to ask…

Workshop fees for festivals, museums and arts organisations:

 

 

We can offer tailor made and off-the-peg sessions on a whole variety of subjects and themes. From 'how to get published', to writing about people, places, past, present and future!

 

Writing workshops specific to museums or in-situ in historic landscapes and sites are a speciality, drawing on seven years personal experience of working in the museums and heritage sector.

 

Half day (2.5 hour) workshops are available from £120.00 - £200.00.
